FALANGHINA TOUR IN THE VALLEY OF THE WINE OF SANNIO BENEVENTANO
“Falanghina Tour” sees the light with the intention of offering opportunities, pretexts, and proposals to travel to the discovery of one of the most important Wine Cities of Campania and of the entire South. The tour aims to introduce a white of excellence such as Falanghina in its land of choice and production, to enhance and promote the territory and the village of Guardia Sanframondi through its privileged ambassador, its identity product, together with cultural beauties, environments, and landscape. Wine tastings and visits to wine cellars, the discovery of typical products and local gastronomy, but also the story of monuments, works of art, museums, landscapes, and natural views.
Early afternoon arrival in Guardia Sanframondi by own means. Reception by a local contact person at the Town Hall and delivery of the “Welcome Sannio” kit (shopping bag, map of the territory, guide to the wine cellars of the town, discount vouchers in affiliated shops, souvenir gadgets). Check-in at one of the booked accommodation facilities and accommodation in the reserved rooms. Afterward, visit of the Church of San Sebastiano, an authentic baroque jewel of the seventeenth century, embellished with frescoes and paintings by Paolo De Matteis and precious stuccos by Vaccaro. Before entering the majestic Medieval Castle of Sanframondo, home to numerous events and demonstrations, a magnificent stage in a historic center that retains an ancient charm, you cannot miss a visit to the “Casa di Bacco”, a museum dedicated to wine culture and rural civilization, with a collection of objects, paintings, and works of art, which lead the visitor on an exciting journey into the world of wine. Dinner in a well-known burger shop in the city to taste strictly local meats, including the prized white veal of the central Apennines PGI (Marche variety), as well as various gastronomic combinations at zero km. Return to the host facility and overnight stay.
In the morning, after a hearty breakfast, the day begins to discover the world capital of Falanghina with a walk through the ancient vineyards, to continue with a guided tour of one of the most significant wineries in the area. An exciting journey through vats and barriques, vinification, and aging rooms, to retrace the fascinating journey of a glass of Falanghina from the vineyard to the bottle. The visit will find a worthy conclusion with a guided wine tasting paired with traditional local dishes. In the afternoon, visit to a farm producing extra virgin olive oil, in the racioppella, ortice and ortolana varieties, all organic. An unmissable opportunity to get to know the genuine flavors of a land with healthy rural traditions, through the symbolic food of the Mediterranean diet, which recalls a deep past. At the end, return to the host facility. Dinner at a restaurant that promotes local gastronomy in a modern way, all served in a refined location created in an ancient building in the historic center, enjoying a spectacular view over the entire Samnite Wine Valley. Return to the host facility and overnight stay.
Waking up in the morning with a delicious breakfast. Possibility to experience one of the following:
- Immersion in nature through walks in the green and trekking in the many paths of the district. The tour, in particular, includes an excursion to discover the real canyon of gorges carved over the millennia by the Titerno torrent, in the setting of the Matese Regional Park. Gorges and caves, waterfalls and natural pools, in a landscape of intense suggestion characterized by wild and uncontaminated nature. Following, typical lunch at a local facility. - Visit to the Civic Art Gallery, housed in the Municipal House, which preserves extraordinary seventeenth and eighteenth-century paintings, including a splendid and refined “Annunciation” by De Matteis, and to the Entomological Museum, also called the Museum of Butterflies and local microfauna. The collection is spread over two levels: on the ground floor, there is the rare, original, extraordinary collection of about a thousand lepidoptera from all over the world, donated to the municipality of Guardia Sanframondi by the heirs of the entomologist lawyer Pascasio Parente; on the first floor, there is an educational multimedia room that tells the life cycles of the specimens on display.We are already in the heart of the historic center of the town, dotted with churches, fountains, portals, glimpses of rare beauty, which through alleys and arcades lead us to the Sanctuary of the Assumption where, among other works of art, the wooden statue is housed of the Madonna, in whose honor, every seven years, penitential rites take place which, due to their uniqueness and mystical value, attract faithful, believers, scholars, and tourists from all over the world. - Visit to the Monumental Complex of Santa Sofia in Benevento, UNESCO heritage since 2011, which is part of the serial site “The Lombards in Italy: the places of power (568-774 AD)”. The complex includes the church, one of the most important of the Longobardia Minor that has survived to the present day, the bell tower in front of the square, the former monastery with the picturesque cloister, the fountain in the center of the area.
